Sony Digital Paper has recently come out with some major upgrades. For starters, they have dropped the price and eliminated the need for proprietary web storage. Together, that represents a price cut of almost a third since its initial release last fall– the current price is $799.
Sony has dropped the required proprietary cloud integration and Digital Paper will now integrate with DropBox or Box. Best of all for Worldox users, it will also integrate with Worldox GX4/Web Mobile 2.0 (but not GX3: you will have to upgrade), so that you can download files directly from Worldox. The device can only read PDF files, but it will convert Word files to PDF seamlessly on the download. This functionality is not intended to be a heavy-duty production feature, but if you take a bunch of files with you and then discover you have missed something, or a new document comes in while you are out of the office, you can easily get it. I dealt with some of the other new features in a post last December.
While Digital Paper is not intended to replace any other device, such as an iPad or smart phone, for attorneys who want to be able to take a significant volume of documents with them and read and mark them up – or even have them digitally signed – the Sony device can be an invaluable tool.
So for people who may have been hesitating, now is the time to revisit the Sony options.
