The Symphony Suite from Trumpet Inc. (www.trumpetinc.com) has always been one of the best solutions for OCR’ing your scanned documents in combination with Worldox (Optical Character Recognition - that is, making the documents text-searchable). One of the main reasons for this is that it works in the background and will OCR your backlog of documents. When you scan a document, it generally takes two and a half to three seconds a page to OCR the document. This is not a big deal for a one-page letter, but it amounts to 4-5 minutes of standing around waiting for the OCR to complete for a 100-page document. This time adds up rapidly.
The latest version of the Symphony suite provide several new features. You can now check on how many documents/pages would need to be OCR’d in your Legacy documents before plunging in headfirst. This can be very useful in calculating your total OCR needs.
Symphony has always been able to OCR emails moved or copied to Worldox. In the latest version, Symphony will now OCR attachments (in particular PDFs) to emails in addition to the emails themselves. This is a feature that has frequently been requested by firms using Symphony. Glad to see it is now available. The only caution is that it will try to process all attachments that have been saved previously to when you implement this feature, so you will need to check your page count before proceeding.
