Have you ever wondered where companies get their hold music from? After all, you sit there and listen to it for what seems like forever.
PCLaw used to play the Brandenburg Concertos as its hold music (and I have noticed several other companies doing that as well). This has the unfortunate side effect of ruining that great must for me.
Other companies use Frank Sinatra, jazz, even radio stations (that must be a low-cost solution).
And of course the worst are the ones who try to use your hold time to push more product on you. Not to mention the “your call is important to us....” after 20 minutes on hold. I guess it isn’t important enough to do something about reducing hold time.
There are probably a number of PhD theses that could be written analyzing the culture of a given company based on its hold music.
